如何翻譯“紅軍不怕遠征難”？ 說(shuō)起長(cháng)征，人們會(huì )自然而然地想起毛澤東的長(cháng)征詩(shī)。他的詩(shī)不但記下了長(cháng)征中的重要事件，也讓我們感受到一個(gè)無(wú)產(chǎn)階級革命家的風(fēng)采。
《長(cháng)征》 ——毛澤東 紅軍不怕遠征難，萬(wàn)水千山只等閑。 五嶺逶迤騰細浪，烏蒙磅礴走泥丸。 金沙水拍云崖暖，大渡橋橫鐵索寒。 更喜岷山千里雪，三軍過(guò)后盡開(kāi)顏。 這么有名的詩(shī)，用英語(yǔ)怎么翻譯比較好呢？ 有位Snow先生已經(jīng)給出了英文版本。 注意！這里的Snow可不是《權力的游戲》里面的囧雪諾哦，而是那個(gè)寫(xiě)出《西行漫記》（Red Star over China, 又譯《紅星照耀中國》）、最早讓世界了解中國共產(chǎn)黨和紅軍真正形象的美國著(zhù)名記者Edgar Snow （埃德加·斯諾）。  斯諾（1905.7.19—1972.2.15）1928年來(lái)到中國，曾任歐美幾家報社駐華記者、通訊員。1933年4月到1935年6月，斯諾同時(shí)兼任北平燕京大學(xué)新聞系講師。1936年6月斯諾訪(fǎng)問(wèn)陜甘寧邊區，寫(xiě)了大量通訊報道，成為第一個(gè)采訪(fǎng)革命老區的西方記者。 對于這段經(jīng)歷，斯諾在1937年出版的《西行漫記》中寫(xiě)道： It was impossible to deny recognition of the Long March as one of the great exploits of military history. 不能不承認紅軍長(cháng)征是世界軍事史上的偉大成就之一。 在這本書(shū)介紹長(cháng)征的那一章，斯諾援引毛澤東的著(zhù)名詩(shī)篇《七律·長(cháng)征》作為結語(yǔ)（"epilogue"）—— 紅軍不怕遠征難， The Red Army, never fearing the challenging Long March, 萬(wàn)水千山只等閑。 Looked lightly on the many peaks and rivers， 五嶺逶迤騰細浪， Wu Ling's Range rose, lowered, rippled, 烏蒙磅礴走泥丸。 And green-tiered were the rounded steps of Wu Meng. 金沙水拍云崖暖， Warm-beating the Gold Sand River's waves against the rocks, 大渡橋橫鐵索寒。 And cold the iron-chain spans of Tatu's bridge. 更喜岷山千里雪， A thousand joyous li of freshening snow on Min Shan, 三軍過(guò)后盡開(kāi)顏。 And then, the last pass vanquished, Three Armies smiled. 是不是對這些翻譯有點(diǎn)摸不著(zhù)頭腦？ 還是再看看翻譯大師許淵沖的譯本吧： 紅軍不怕遠征難， Of the trying Long March the Red Army makes light; 萬(wàn)水千山只等閑。 Thousands of rivers and mountains are barriers slight. 五嶺逶迤騰細浪， The five serpentine ridges outspread like rippling rills; 烏蒙磅礴走泥丸。 The pompus Wumeng peaks tower but like mole-hills. 金沙水拍云崖暖， Against warm cloudy cliffs beat waves of Golden Sand; 大渡橋橫鐵索寒。 With cold iron-chain bridge River Dadu is spanned. 更喜岷山千里雪， Glad to see the Min Range snow-clad for miles and miles, 三軍過(guò)后盡開(kāi)顏。 Our warriors who have crossed it break into broad smiles. 雖然斯諾對于中國詩(shī)詞的翻譯沒(méi)有達到大師水準，但他對于中央蘇區、對于紅軍、對于長(cháng)征的描寫(xiě)都非常細致入微。 來(lái)一段他對于長(cháng)征的評價(jià)，大家感受下： Adventure, exploration, discovery, human, courage and cowardice, ecstasy and triumph, suffering, sacrifice, and loyalty, and then through it all, like a flame, an undimmed ardour and undying hope and amazing revolutionary optimism of those thousands of youths who would not admit defeat by man or nature or God or death - all this and more seemed embodied in the history of an odyssey unequalled in modern times. |
