五官five sense organs

目、舌、口(唇)、鼻、耳五個(gè)器官。

Five sense organs refer to the eyes, tongue, mouth (lips), nose and ears.

中國古人對人體的認識，是按照天人相應的原則而進(jìn)行的。人與天相應，也與社會(huì )相應。所以，古人往往按照社會(huì )結構來(lái)分析人體不同部位的生理功能。正如《黃帝內經(jīng)·素問(wèn)》“靈蘭秘典論”所說(shuō)的那樣：

心者，君主之官也，神明出焉。

The heart is the organ similar to the monarch and is responsible for spirit and mental activity.

肺者，相傅之官，治節出焉。

The lung is the organ similar to the prime minister and is responsible for management and regulation.

肝者，將軍之官，謀慮出焉。

The liver is the organ similar to a general in the army and is responsible for making strategy.

膽者，中正之官，決斷出焉。

The gallbladder is the organ similar to an official of justice and is responsible for decision.

.膻中者，臣使之官，喜樂(lè )出焉。

The pericardium is the organ similar to the envoy and controls happiness and joy.

脾胃者，倉廩之官，五味出焉。

The spleen and stomach are the organs similar to the granary and are responsible for digestion, absorption and transportation of the five flavors.

大腸者，傳道之官，變化出焉。

The large intestine is the organ similar to the official in charge of transportation and is responsible for change and transformation.

小腸者，受盛之官，化物出焉。

The small intestine is the organ similar to the official in charge of reception and is responsible for further digestion of foods.

腎者，作強之官，伎巧出焉。

The kidney is the organ similar to the official with great power and is responsible for developing methods and skills.

三焦者，決瀆之官，水道出焉。

The triple energizer is the organ similar to the official in charge of dredging and is responsible for regulating water passage.

膀胱者，州都之官，津液藏焉，氣化則能出矣。

The bladder is the organ similar to the official in charge of reservoir and is responsible for accumulation and discharge of liquids through qi transformation.

上面這段中的“官”，其實(shí)都是主管的意思，即表示某一器官的主要功能。西方人不懂得中國古人的這種認知方法，將這些概念中的“官”皆譯作officer,“五官”也就想當然地譯作five officers。其實(shí)這里的“五官”，就是現代醫學(xué)上的five sense organs。
